I have been offered a specific book (Book A), however, the photo shows a different book - Book B - and the ISBN confirms the book as Book B, although the title is entered as Book A. If I decline the offer I lose my place in line because of this mistake. If I accept the offer I may end up getting the wrong book.
I've emailed the sender to ask which book it is, but s/he may not be able to change the entry until the order is canceled.

Any suggestions?

At this point, contacting the sender is about all you can do regarding this transaction. Hopefully the other member checks in frequently and you can sort this out before the book is mailed.

Per PBS guidelines, the cover picture does not have to match, only ISBN, binding, title and author. If you've discovered an error in the PBS data base, you should contact the data correction team so they can fix the problem.

Are we talking about 2 editions of the same book or about 2 different books?

If you think that the ISBN of the book you have been offered is for Book B and that is not the book that you want ... then it seems like you might have put yourself in that line by mistake and it woudl not matter if you lose your place in line, right?

Otherwise, if both Book A and Book B are the same book, just different editions, but they might have the same ISBN, then what you have done so far is OK, by PMing the sender.

The real solution in the case of a single ISBN having 2 editions is that 1. you would set up a RC describing the edition that you want ("If I have requested book XXX, this ISBN applies to 2 editions of the book. I want the edition that is XXXXXXXXX, please refuse the book request if you have edition XXXXX"), and then 2. the person offering the book would hopefully be able to determine if they have the edition that you want, and 3. they could accept or decline the offer and nobody would lost their place in line.

I should have been more specific. If this were just a matter of two different editions of the same book, I wouldn't mind. But these are two different books completely. The book I have on my wishlist is a kitchen book. The book that shows up under the kitchen book title is a children's story book called Mutt and Pup. Even amazon.com shows the ISBN as Mutt and Pup, but it shows in the PBS database with the title Confessions of a Butcher with the Mutt and Pup photo.

Rob, please list the ISBN of the book with the PBS listing that seems mixed up.  I will research and try to fix the PBS listing if it is incorrect for the ISBN.

ETA  I think I found it - you are referring to ISBN 1887942726, yes?  At the very least, I will try to get the image and title to match, after I research the title information for this ISBN.

ETA2:  Looks like Mutt and Pup title is the correct one; I have submitted a request to the Team to modify the title for the PBS listing.

Yes, Sianeka, that is it. I don't understand if the computer grants wishlists by the ISBN, then why was I offered this book (Mutt and Pup)? I didn't have that ISBN on my wishlist. But I did have the title that is showing - Confessions of a Butcher - on my wishlist. I didn 't think the computer granted by title.

Rob, the system is based on ISBN not title.  It may be possible that when you were putting the correct ISBN on your WishList that when alternative versions were listed for you to add to your WishList, you inadvertently added this ISBN as well, since the ISBN is tied/linked to the Butcher title.  (It is easy to add different editions of a book when you input one ISBN to add to your WishList - all the alternate editions tied to your listed ISBN pop up and the system asks if you want to add any of the alternate editions also to your WishList.)

I have submitted a request to the Team to modify the title for the PBS listing. (Data Team cannot make/authorize title corrections to listings without prior approval from the site admins.)

I think it will be safe for you to cancel your transaction.  It will remove you from the WishList line for THIS ISBN, and this book only, not the other ISBNs on your WishList, and you don't want this ISBN anyway, so it would be ok for you to be removed from this WL line.  Just check to make sure afterwards that the system didn't put the other ISBNs on your WL on Hold or you will not be offered the next available copy (if you are #1 in those lines as well.)

That makes sense to me and is probably what happened. Thank you, Sianeka

I've seen people posting recenlty about odd books being added to the WL Expander that have nothing to do with the WL book they're attatched to.
