I am trying to post a book that I bought myself at a Barnes & Noble a bunch of years ago. When I put in the IBSN it doesn't come up. I Googled the IBSN and it did come up in libraries that carry the book! What did I buy?? The book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and the IBSN# I have is 978-0-965-75582-5. can you help me? I know there are tons of copies of this book in the system so maybe I should just donate it to the library anyway.. I would like to know if anyone has ever encountered this though. |

I get Idaho Ghost Towns by Ralph Preston when I enter that ISBN. You'll need to post this book using the Post a Book without an ISBN link on the Post Books Page. Publisher's frequently recycle ISBN numbers and this is something that happens a lot. |

thanks. If the IBSN isn't listed as that book would it be harder to get rid of? |

Check and see if there is a different ISBN on the publishing page. That has happened to me. |

I wouldn't post by another ISBN from the publishing page. Sometimes they list the ISBN numbers from other versions there as well, the one on the back is going to be the most accurate. The only time I refer to the publishing page is when there is no ISBN on the back cover. |

I think B&N had that book as bookclub special for awhile. Slightly different cover and size with a different ISBN. I'd post it using the No ISBN method. Using another ISBN from that page could get you messed up (like using the hardcover one or LP etc). |

If you attempt to use the publishing page ISBN, be sure to check the information carefully to verify everything matches (esp. binding). It's not uncommon for the publishing page to include ISBN's for several editions, including hardcover and paperback...so don't assume one is the long version and another is the short version of the same ISBN number. It's okay to use any ISBN printed on the book that brings up a listing that matches your book's title, author, ISBN and book type (binding.) I've seen books with mistakes on the cover ISBN, so it does happen. |

If it had not happened to me I would not have noticed it. I had a Paperback Book of the Month Club book that when I used the ISBN on the back ; the description said it was a hardback book. If I had left it that way ;even tho the ISBN matched the reciever would have wondered why it was a paperback I sent. And yes the publishing page often has multiple ISBN's listed, but it is possible to match the book with the right one. Or let it go to another venue. |
