Received BROWN-EYED GIRL by Mariah Stewart but ISBN was different from the one I ordered.  Marked it RWAP, did not ask for my credit back and proceeded to correct the ISBN  so that I wouldn't inadvertently repost the book with the wrong ISBN.  Turns out that the ISBN that is on the book is not in PBS's database.  However, it doesn't seem to be in any other database that I can find.  I Googled the 978 ISBN and also the 10 ISBN and found nothing.  Searched for it on Amazon and found nothing.  This is weird.  The ISBN that doesn't seem to exist anywhere is 978-0-617-78588-8.

Guess I'm out of luck as far as reposting the book since there is no such ISBN as the one assigned to this book.  I suspect that was why the sender posted the book with a different  ISBN that matches this same book.

I found this copy where the ISBN is very close; numbers 6717 not 6177, in a slightly different order. 9780671785888

Does it have the same ISBN on the copyright page?  You can use that or you can post it with a unique ISBN.

Jan - you can repost it, but you'll have to post it using one of PBS's 'fake ISBN's'. Eventually it may come up with the ISBN that you have.  Pat

The ISBN 978-0-617-78588-8 is a misprint on the book, because this is not a valid ISBN. For ISBNs, the last digit is calculated from the other numbers, so the ISBN that starts out with "978-0-617-78588", must have a final digit of "0"; it cannot be "8". There is no book listed on Amazon with an ISBN of 978-0-617-78588-0, so I don't think that one has ever been used.

I suspect that the ISBN Linda found is the one the publisher intended to use. That 3-digit section should read 671 instead of 617 and somehow they just got it backwards. I agree that you should see if you can find the correct ISBN on any of the front matter pages and if so, use that to post the book. Otherwise, you will have to use the link that says "Post a Book Without an ISBN" on the Post Books page.

Yeah, sometimes they misprint the ISBN on the cover. I've bought books before where a (obvious correction) sticker with the correct ISBN was placed on top of the wrong one.
