Hi!  I was on the waitlist for a LARGE PRINT copy of Real Murders by Aurora Teagarden.  The requesting ISBN was 0792707524.  The sender sent me the regular mass market paperback instead with the ISBN 0373261047.  She says that she typed in ISBN "0373261047" and my wishlist for "0792707524" was automatically filled.  My transaction archive clearly shows that the large print request was filled :(.   I know that sometimes people will look though people's wish lists and see if they are looking for a specific book and then fill the request with the same book but different ISBN.  The sender says that she has no idea how to do that and that she typed in the ISBN off the back of the book.

I just don't understand how this could happen.  Why would my wishlist for a large print be filled with a regular paperback?  Does anyone know? Was there a change that I missed?

Thanks for any help or insight!

Robin

I wish I could answer your question but I can't. The same thing has been happening to me and it's VERY frustrating. I have requested 6 or 7 LP books and so far 3 have actually been LP. I am now putting a RC on every time I request a LP book and then PMing the sender and asking if the book they have IS LP and if not please decline my request.  Sometimes the ISBN is the same and other times it's different.

I must say I'm getting quite discouraged so my only suggestion is to put a RC on saying "I only want large print book..if this is NOT large print  please decline ." And I still would PM the sender and clarify.

What the sender probably did was type the ISBN from the back of her book, then she got a screen with a button in the middle that says "Post The Above Book".

Underneath is a box that says "Are you meaning to post one of these other book types?"

  • Hardcover - 0745182046
  • Paperback - 0792707524

For some reason she clicked on the button next to Paperback. Who knows, maybe she didn't see the big button that says "Post The Above Book", or maybe the cover didn't match and she didn't realize that's o.k. Then she saw a big red box that said:

This book is listed in the database as Large Print (16-point font size). If your book is NOT Large Print, you cannot use this listing to post your book.

She ignored that and clicked the button underneath that posted the book.

You can easily follow what she must have done by going to the Post Books screen and entering these ISBNs yourself.

You should mark this received as Wrong Book and ask for your credit back. If she refuses to give it back, you can use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the screen to send a message to the PBS Team. They've said before that they *will* intervene in problem swaps where a Large Print listing was used for a regular print book, because this is not a matter of preference, it's a necessity.

I don't think you should threaten the sender with "I'm going to tell on you" or anything like that, just ask for your credit back and wait a few days to see if she'll give it back. Even if she says no at first, I'd give her a couple days to change her mind. Then if there's no progress, send a note to the team asking for help.

Oops!  I just noticed what Cathy said.  Yes, I can see that happening.  I am in contact with her now via PM and I'll ask her if Cathy's scenario happened.

What worse is that I lost my spot on the waitlist for the book I really wanted :(.  I had another problem this month where the sender sent me a book with a broken spine.  Again, I lost my spot on the waitlist and that one was really long!

Robin,If you submit feedback to the site owners using the contact us link at the bottom of the page they should put you back in the number 1 spot for the book. Sorry you got the wrong book :(

What Tammy said.  I recently had the same thing happen to me.  Wrong version of book, sender insists that she typed in the correct ISBN and refused to return my credit unless I returned her book.  I sent feedback to the site and they returned me to my place in line.  Sorry this happened to you.  It's very frustrating, especially when the sender says "It's not like you can't still read the book."
