This time the victim is an artist. It looks like a simple case of death by old age, but when his son follows him to the grave, murder enters the picture and Chief Insp. Wycliffe unravels and intricate web of scandal and conspiracy spun by vengeful survivors. If you like classic detection, you'll enjoy these Burley mysteries.

Despite good writing and competent structure, the story's supposed surprises were all fairly predictable. Still, Burley packs a lot of story into a slim 192 pages. His police detective Wycliffe is a likeable enough character, although not as well developed as he could have been. Still, it was a quick and good read for a lazy afternoon.
