I am pretty new to this, and Ihad sent out an x library book I had bought and read that was in almost new condition

except for the stamps.  On amazon and ebay, x library books are considered good contion as long as they ARE good, but

when I sent one out the person said "I cant believe you sent me a library book."  I ended up letting her choose another one free, but

we have no way of letting people know so I wanted to ask. Thanks, auddiemae

Yes! As long as they meet the basic posting guidelines (no water damage, no writing/underlining, etc.), ex-library books are fine! That member who complained should update her Requestor Conditions if she really doesn't want them.

It was very nice of you to give her another free book but it was above-and-beyond.

Yes, ex-library books are OK as long as they meet all of the guidelines and none of the library stamps cover up any text.  If someone on PBS doesn't want former library books, it's their responsibility to say so in their Requestor Conditions.  As long as the book was in good shape, you were fine according to PBS guidelines!

These two topics from the Help Center should give you most of what you need to know about the books you can swap here:

Book Condition Guidelines
What can be swapped here?

Hi Audrey, Welcome to PBS.  I just want to second what Sherry said...it's really, really, really important that you take the time to thoroughly check out the help docs and learn the posting guidelines.  As you've learned, not only is it important so that you don't post something you shouldn't- but also so that you know the guidelines in case someone is accusing you of doing the same!  You'll save yourself a lot of trading headaches!

Welcome! As others have already said, ex-library books that meet the other PBS posting guidelines are allowed. They don't even have to be in "excellent" condition, just good condition as outlined by PBS. I've gotten a few of those PMs from people too, who are 'put out' that I sent them a library book. One guy even accused me of sending him a STOLEN library book! LOL I send back a polite (sometimes I have to restrain myself to BE polite, but I do it! LOL) PM with a copy/paste from the help docs explaining that ex-library books are indeed allowed and that perhaps they need to read the posting guidelines more carefully for what is acceptable.

Another thing you might get is if people complain that "it's not the same cover as the one in the picture." Covers don't have to match either, so if someone complains about that, again direct them to the help docs. As long as the ISBN and the format (hardcover or paperback) matches, that's what counts.

If folks want conditions above and beyond what PBS allows, it is their responsibility to put Requestor Conditions in place stating such.

Cheryl

I send out ex-library books all the time, and most are in excellent condition, the rest are in very good condition.  I've only had one person complain about it, and then she said it was her own fault because she didn't have it as a requestor condition.  I usually remove all the outside stickers from the book, so that basically except for the inside stickers you can't tell (other than it has the plastic cover, which I personally love - it saves the dust jacket from getting torn and worn.

Welcome to PBS.  You'll love it here.  Pat
