He may also hold the key to her heart. Emma, her twin brother Ethan and their good friend Zak, live in a dystopian future world that they want desperately to change. In a bold and unauthorized move, they commandeer Dr. Currant?s TimeTravelle machine and ride it back 100 years. Their mission: to save the 1932 Presidential race and allow the nation to elect, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a minor historical figure, virtually unknown to the people of 2032. However, the time travelers see him as an exciting man of promise and hope for a better future. In their world of 2032, the elections of 1932 were cancelled as result of rioting that followed a Great Depression Occupy Movement called the Bonus Army. Seeking back pay, more than twenty thousand of these World War I veterans occupied Washington D.C. for many months that summer. When their demands were ignored, and Congress went into recess, they continued to squat and protest until the incumbent President Herbert Hoover could no longer stand the tension. He ordered the United States Army, led by General Douglas MacArthur, to rout them out of the Capitol. The general immediately dispatched his troops, tanks and cavalry creating a full-blown riot with many deaths. Across the nation, disenfranchised and impoverished people responded in sympathy with rioting. This led to the establishment of martial law throughout the country, and the suspension of the 1932 presidential election. As a result, and like many other countries of that time, America moved away from democracy and toward fascism. Knowing this, the three time travelers believe that altering this historic pivot point will improve their world. They travel to Washington and join the Bonus Army, intending to stop the violence, and save the election. On the way, they cross paths with Eleanor Roosevelt, J. Edgar Hoover, General Smedley Butler, MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton. 1932 is a time of great economic depression, freight-hopping, speakeasies, jazz music, talking movies, Communists hiding behind every corner, and tremendous cultural and political upheaval. It?s an exciting, hostile and even romantic destination for the travelers from 2032, as they struggle against time to rewrite history.« less
