**I posted this in the Young Adult form....but I thought I'd post it in the Paranormal one as well.

I tend not to read much YA (because I love some steaminess in my novels), but when I do....I like to read ones that involve vampires.

I have one stimulation, I want a YA that borders as being an adult book. I want to stay away from books that are too "teeny".

I am currently reading Christopher Pike's Thirst series. I read the first story "The Last Vampire" and enjoyed it. I think I liked it because the main Vampire was old and the setting was taking place in High School.

I heard that the House of Night series are pretty good...and I have the first one coming in the mail :)

So any suggestions for YA....but that are not too "teeny"???

AND---of course I have already read the Twilight Saga. haha :)  (which were very "teeny"---but then again I was a teenager when I first started them)

THANKS!!!

How about the Morganville series by Rachel Caine?

I bring up Sunshine by Robin McKinley with YA books.  It isn't YA.  But it is pretty clean.  She has a boyfriend, but everything is pretty much off screen.

3. Shadow Kiss (2008)
4. Blood Promise (2009)
5. Spirit Bound (2009)
6. Last Sacrifice (2010)

Vampire Academy and Morganville are the two series I'd reccomend for YA vampire novels as well.

If you decide  to branch out and try YA paranormals with beaties other than vampires, Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers Trilogy (werewolves, sorcerors, witches and necromancers), Andrea Cremmer's Witches War series, starting with Nightshade (werewolves), Jenna Black's Faeriewalker series starting with Glimmerglass (Faeries) and Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series (bean sidhes) are all really good as well.

Here's another vote for Morganville Vampires.  I'm reading the newest one, Bite Club, right now.

Would the Morganville Vampires be okay for my 14 year old daughter aka no steamy sex scenes?

There is a lot of violence in the Morganville.  There is a long term boyfriend relationship with kissing and sleeping (actual sleeping) together.  But as of the one before the recent one, there wasn't sex by the main character.

This really depends on what kind of 14.  But I'd be much more comfortable giving Morganville to a 14 year old than Twilight.  Twilight is all about craving and lust, even when there isn't any sex.  In Morganville, there is discussion about how she is not ready for sex.  There is discussion on statutory rape, as the 16 year old is in College with older kids.  So sex is a topic.

I agree with the Vampire Academy series as well.  I thought it was fantastic.  The House of Night and Vampire Diaries series borders on being to angsty for me.  I tried to read the first couple of the Morganville Vampire series, but couldn't get in to it. The Blue Bloods is also okay - probably closer to House of Night than Vampire Academy.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations! :)

I got Morganville Vampires Vol. 1 (Glass House/The Dead Girl's Dance. I'm excited to start the series.

Also, I am wishing for the first book in the Vampire Academy's series.

When reading paranormal, I tend to only enjoy reading about vampires. I do not like reading ones that have the main character being a werewolf. However, I have in the past been interested in witch series.

I saw the Immortals series books by Alyson Noel. The covers are so cute! Any suggestions on those????

I personally do not like the Alyson Noel series.  I think it's just annoying.  And it's not about vampires.

I really like Claudia Gray's series, the first one is Evernight.  I think Chloe Neill's series Chicagoland Vampires is YA, but I haven't read it yet so I can't really comment on that one - I'm sure someone out there can.

Chicagoland Vamps by Chloe Neill is a fabulous series, I'd rank it above the Caine series, but it does cross the line from teen to adult. It is written YA style IMO, but some (not alot) heavier sex scenes in it.

Lili St Crow's Strange Angels series is pretty good. Its not heavy on the vamps, there is a variety of paranormals in it.

I loved the Wicked Lovely series.  They are about faeires not vampires.  I just finished the first book in The Darkes Powers series.  I loved it and can't wait to get the next one.

I loved the Vampire Academy series - my daughter got me hooked :)  We also read The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare which are my favorite YA books right now. They do deal with vampires & werewolves but also have the ShadowHunters.  It's a great series :)

So I read "Marked" and I actually liked it---in fact, I'm on book 3 in the House of Night series. I think I liked it because it reminded me of Harry Potter and his experience at Hogwarts lol  (and of course I enjoyed the HP series) I have to start wishing for the rest of the book in the series now!!!!! :)

I have Vampire Academy series books 1-4. I'm excited to give that series a shot, since so many of you recommended the series.

My Vote with a capital V would be The Vampire Academy!  I think it has the most of what you are asking for... very steamy in some areas but not as graphic as an adult book.  The chemistry between Rose and Dimitri is amazing!  Best two lead characters that I've ever read in YA books of this genre and even beats a lot of the leads in adult vamp books.  The Vampires don't always take center stage in this series, but I am willing to bet that once you get going in book 1 you'll be hooked and won't care.  Rose is a Bad A** and not a "teeny" girly girl at all, but she is also sexy and seductive when she needs to be.  I can't even name a favorite book, I loved them all.  After I was lucky enough to read books 1 thru 3 through PBS, I couldn't wait on my WL for the others I bought them brand new... waiting on that last one to be released nearly did me in, I had it preordered through walmart.com for 6 months.

I read several of the first House of Night books and gave up on the series, I have no nice words to say about it.  The Immortals kind of the same thing... the first book was awesome... then it went down hill after that.  The Claudia Gray series  is good too but isn't as close to what you asked for in a series, it might be too "teeny" and not very steamy.

Please respond back and tell us what you think about the Vampire Academy series as you get into it.
