Purvottanasana:Purva means East and implies that the front or eastern aspect of the body is intensely stretched. The heads of the two figures meet at the trunk or spine of the tree as masculine encounters the feminine under the canopy of leaves. The tree helps to join the polar energies of male and female with its lush, green landscape of abundant life force and provides a nourishing practice place for yoga. The image of two friends practicing together reminds us that yoga strengthens our connection to each other and to the world. If we practice mindfully, this experience can help shape the larger context of our lives and relationships and indeed help reshape the planet.« less
