I'm a teacher at a Christian school, and if anyone's read The Hunger Games or Catching Fire, I'd love your opinion. My 7th grade students are really into these books (due to my recommendation), but now that I'm reading Catching Fire, I'm questioning whether or not they're appropriate!

Has anyone read these? What do you think of the content? Is Hunger Games too violent? What about the sensuality in Catching Fire?

None of the other teachers at my school have read these, so I'd really appreciate your thoughts/opinions.

I've read BOTH of the books and i LOVED them!

in terms of content, first off I would say they are for older teens due to the violent (but not graphic violent) content. There's no sex, although there is a relationship between katniss and two of the boys.

overall i would say though if the kids are mature enough for it, then it's ok

As a HS Secretary at a Christian school and mother of 15,13,9, and 4, I have read both books. I think my older two could handle the violence (depends on the child). That being said, one of the books... I think book two... had the main characters "sleeping together"...really sleeping, nothing happened but I do NOT like idea of girls being comfortable being in the same bed with a boy EVEN if they are having massively scary nightmares about fighting to the death.

EDIT: I LOVED THE BOOKS AND WILL READ BOOK THREE. I WOULD LET MY KIDS READ IT BUT HAVE A SERIOUS DISCUSSION ABOUT APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WITH BOYS FIRST.
