I enjoyed this book - will read more in the series. A quick read without too much concentration needed - just the thing for those days when one does not wish to think too much!
Parents murdered by the UET then snatched into the "Total Welfare" at the tender age of five with her older brother, separated from him and her uncle, Rissa spends a lonely childhood in the sterile dormitories. No personal possessions, no friends, no family, makes her wary and self-sufficient.
When her boss buys lottery tickets in her name - she wins and with the publicity, he is unable to hide or appropriate the money. An old friend of her parents snatches her from the UET before they can do away with her and sends her to someone for survival training.
She does leave Earth, and hiding her trail by changing identities a few times, she manages to find a new family. Something that she wants so very much.
