My husband, son and I all take zero waste lunches to work/school each day. It actually started because I was interested in bento boxes but then it just seemed to be the right thing to do. Our lunch kits have reusable containers to hold sandwiches, cookies, fruit, leftovers...whatever. I even pack reusable forks or chopsticks and cloth napkins. It's nice to know that we are doing out little bit to cut down on the waste that will eventually end up in a landfill.

I do this with J's snack as well. I'm always on the lookout for small containers of different sizes. :) |

I always take my own fork to work in my lunch bag because there's never any at work and I hate using plastic ones. It's cheaper too to take food in resueable containers, buying stuff pre-packaged in smaller packs is expensive. If I want to take chips, I just throw a couple of handfuls in a ziplock container. Much cheaper than buying the little packs of them. |

Check out the "Food Containers" here: http://www.ichibankanusa.com/s.nl/sc.13/category.166/.f I have ordered many bento boxes and other containers from this site and I've always had great customer service. This is also a great place to get reusable eating utensils, too.

I love my wrap n mats. We just got our order or laptop lunches in today (for the whole family!!) and my daughter was so excited she decided to take lunch to school tomorrow just to try it out.

We're fairly good about this. We actually don't take containers of chips, we just take the bag of chips (and bottle of pickles) in and leave them at the office. No washing containers! Sandwhiches & stuff come in reusables. For drinks we again just bring the bottles in & leave them. It's nice to have an office. Even when we forget the "main dish" we usually have something to eat! (It's all in his office, I work across the street. That's really nice.) Leftovers are great for lunch. Easy to pack. The only thing that isn't good about leftovers is I haven't yet won my attempt to convince my SO that we should bring real plates. He really doesn't want to deal with hauling them home dirty so we have paper plates. Silverware is a lot easier so we do use real silverware. |

I have pretty much stopped using plastic containers for leftovers. I now buy glass containers. Glass doesn't absorb smells of other foods, and I can microwave or heat without having the food leech into the plastic (like tomato sauce) or the plastic leeching into the food. You can buy the "safe" plastic containers, but for the price, glass is about the same and I can freeze and heat in them. |
