Harriet, Duchess of Berrow, is tired of her title and the responsibilities that come along with it. Enough with proper tea parties and elegant balls; what Harriet really wants is to attend an outrageous soiree where she can unleash her wildest whims and desires. But to attend such an event -- especially if the event in question is Lord Justinian Strange's rollicking fete, filled with noble rogues and rotters, risque ladies and illicit lovers -- would be certain scandal. That's why she must disguise herself...
Looking forward to a night of uninhibited pleasure, Lord Strange is shocked to discover that beneath the clothes of a no-good rake is the most beautiful woman in the room. Why is a woman like her risking her reputation at his notorious affair? And can he possibly entice her to stay... forever?

Georgia period - London. Interesting book. Harriet (widow) is restless and chooses to spend time at a notorious Lord's home along with women and men of "loose morals". Although to not damage her reputation, she dresses as a man. The connection between the two (hero / heroine) is a bit odd at first due to the fact that he doesn't know she is a woman, but gets better. By the end of the book, the relationship has developed. I think it's #3? of her Desperate Duchess series. Recommended, but I'm still waiting for Viller's story.

This was my introduction to author Eloisa James, and I don't know what took me so long! I really enjoyed it. Even though it's the 3rd in the Desperate Duchesses series, and usually I prefer to read in order, I lucked into this book and read it first - and I'm glad I did. I found it witty and amusing, and a totally fresh way of dealing with a heroine who dresses in men's clothing - not because she's a hoyden, but to protect her reputation. It was a 5-star read for me, and I'll be looking for the rest of the series!
Very engaging story. It was great entertainment watching poor Jem fight his attraction to "Harry" while Harriet just blossoms ... as a man!
Typical Eloisa James fare - fractious fun with plenty of sizzle.
