Gerges explores the mind of jihadists through interviews he had in Egypt and Lebanon from 1998 to 2006 and through papers previously unavailable to the West. He begins with the roots of jihadism in Egypt, how it morphed into global tactics, and then coalesced in Iraq. He also sheds light on divides within Islam about jihad ranging from moderate to radical. Overall very enlightening.
