Book Description:
Patterson and Ledwidge introduce a new hero in an exciting thriller set in the heart of Manhattan. NYPD detective Michael Bennett is concentrating on getting his family through a particularly difficult Christmas: he and his 10 adopted children are facing the loss to cancer of his brave wife, Maeve. But a major crisis calls him away: the funeral of a former First Lady at St. Patrick's Cathedral goes horribly awry when men storm the church and take hundreds of attendees hostage. Michael is asked to try to reason with a sinister man named Jack. Jack releases all but the most famous people, and makes his demands: he wants several million dollars from each celebrity hostage, including the mayor, a popular comedic actor, a beloved talk show host, and a pop starlet. Once Jack starts killing, Michael realizes he's up against a truly diabolical foe. Patterson has a knack for creating genuinely likable heroes, and Michael fits the bill. As readers rapidly turn the pages to learn how the tense hostage drama plays out, they will also be sympathizing with Michael as he faces the agonizing loss of his wife. Totally gripping and downright impossible to put down, this is a promising start to a potential new series.

Patterson offers a new hero in this book, Mike Bennett. Father to 10 children, all adopted, he's drawn into a kidnapping/potential disaster on Christmas Eve when St Patrick's Cathedral is seized by terrorists. Inside the Cathedral are too many movers and shakers to count. I hope this is the first in a series for a very busy author, because the family life Patterson and Ledwidge show us is delightful!

I've read all Patterson's books. This was absolutely the best yet! Has a strong emotional pull, also--with a parallel story line. I listen to books on CD on my commute. Today, I cried all the way listening to this book!

I am a BIG FAN of James Patterson..... Sorry to say this was NOT a good book in MY opinion... The spaced out chapters, the 1/2, 3/4 empty pages, the writing is just not Patterson...
If you are used the the books such as Big Bad Wolf, Roses are red, Judge & Jury, etc., not so sure you'll like the book. One big story of a hostage situation, not a lot of twists and turns, and guessing..
As much as I paid for this book, I was not hesitant to get it on my bookshelf, and let someone else just have it, tells you something...

the cover has a different picture on it. Quick easy read that will keep you guessing the outcome till the end as Patterson's books usually do. Worth the read.

Fabulous Book! I read it in two days, only because I was on vacation and could not stay on the airplane where I started reading it. I was disappointed when the plane ride was over! Great suspense, I had no idea who the "neat man" was. I laughed and cried during this book, lucky for me the plane ride had a movie and people did not think I was crazy!
