This is a book that could easily stand alone, even today (it was published in 1989). The heroine is not beautiful in the usual sense, and a big part of the conflict is from her thinking that the beautiful hero deserves a beautiful woman.

This book's setting varies from the usual western ranch or city, which takes it out of the ordinary at the very beginning. There is a beautiful landscape, a wild part of our country, a snowy owl and a dangerous job necessary to our country portrayed in this book. We get a glimpse of the beauty, discomforts and dangers of the upper part of Minnesota.

The story is believable and the characters seem like they could be friends, albeit after the work it takes to get past their emotional barriers. Charly is a woman I would love to call my friend.

It is not an overly complicated story, but the only down side to the book for me is that it could have used some editing to get rid of a few awkward and/or ungrammatical sentences that jarred this reader from the flow of the story.

I have not read many books by this author, but I will be seeking out her books to see if this is the caliber of writing she routinely displays.
