Book Description:
Anna, a self-sufficient and reliable single mother, packs her bags one day for a short vacation to Italy. She leaves her beloved daughter at home in London with good friends. When Anna doesn’t return, everyone begins to make excuses, until the likelihood that she might not come back at all becomes chillingly clear. In this dazzling work of suspense, Sarah Dunant interweaves parallel narratives that are stretched taut with tension even as they raise difficult questions about love, trust, and accountability. We are challenged, unnerved, and ultimately exhilarated as Dunant redefines the boundaries of the psychological thriller.

Chilling novel - I was on edge a few times whilst reading this book. Anna Franklin takes a holiday to the continent - when she doesn't return home as planned, her loved ones are distraught with worry over what's happened to her. Anna's story is told in two parallel narratives - it's up to the reader to determine which is the real story.

Confusing to me at first, but when I let go and just read I found myself wondering what would happen to Anna in both stories. While the ending did satisfy me to a degree, I'll admit I was wanting a bit more. I loved Dunant's "Birth of Venus" and this was a refreshing change. I'm anxious to check out more of her suspense work.

Anna Franklin goes on an impromptu trip to Italy but doesn't return when promised. Soon, the people she has left behind begin to wonder what has happened to her. The story is told in parallel story lines and will keep the reader guessing. Did she run off with a scam artist lover? Was she kidnapped by a man with an obsession with another woman? It was really interesting and far more suspenseful than I anticipated. I found myself nervous and on edge until the very end.

Gripping story...creative and inventive story line. Allows for the reader to inject their point of view on what "really" happens.Great European surroundings of London and Italy.

Very well written. Not only was it entertaining, but the parallel stories of one woman's disappearance were amazing. A unique, one of a kind, who-done-it.
