Book Description:
From Columbus's voyage to the Iran-Contra affair, author Kenneth C. Davis carries the reader on a rollicking ride through 600 years of Americana. With wit, candor and fascinating facts, he explodes long-held myths and misconceptions -- revealing the very human side of history that the textbooks neglect. Written in a question and answer format and organized chronologically, this book answers such burning questions as: "Why did Aaron Burr shoot Alexander Hamilton?" and "How did a dead archduke in Sarajevo get America into a World War?".

Non Fiction, this book is a wealth of American History. By using the index it is possible to look up specific details of American History. The book is set up in chronological order and an easy read.

I'm a history buff so I really enjoyed this book. From the cover...from Columbus's voyage to the Clinton administration, author Kenneth C. Davis carries the reader on a rollicking ride through 600 years of Americana. With wit, candor and fascinating facts, he explodes long-held myths and misconceptions-revealing the very human side of history that the textbooks neglect.

Everyone should read this book. It's amazing what I never heard in school. Sheds an interesting light on current political affairs.

Not terribly impressed. "Lies My Teacher Told Me" and Howard Zinn's "People's History" are MUCH better IMO.

NB: My copy w/this ISBN came from another member and has a diff cover. It is not brand new - but very readable.

Some adjectives from the reviews quoted on the back cover: quirky, fun, sardonic, accurate, significant. From Columbus to Iran-Contra, this book is organized by questions, such as Where did the Underground Railway run? and What was the scandal over teapot dome?

Got to page 25, then quit reading it about 10 years ago. Maybe its a good book, but I don't know.
