Book Description:
The Walker family survived the atrocities perpetrated by a serial killer and his crazed acolyte in both "Hour of the Hunter" and "Kiss of the Bees". But can they escape the vengeance of a new killer or killers whose sights have been set on their precious daughter, Lani? Young girls are being spirited away from an orphanage deep in Colonial Mexico -- told they're traveling to a loving adoptive family in southern Arizona, their hopes are high. But the fate that waits for them is truly horrifying: when death comes, it will be a blessing....

Former Sheriff Brandon Walker is living the life of a reluctant retiree. Playing golf while his wife, Diana Ladd, continues to write her bestselling tales of true crime, he desperately misses the action and sense of usefulness from days gone by. When he's invited to join the Last Chance Club to review and attempt to solve long-cold cases, he little imagines the first case to cross his path will be one he may have botched back when he was sheriff. And when the case from all those decades past becomes entangled with a current murder, it seems a serial killer with a very long and shocking track record may be back in business....

An ex-sherrif has a chance to work on 'cold cases' to give closure to families of murder victims. In doing so, he finds that a serial killer has been at work for more than 30 years in the area they live in and no one had connected the murders. Very good read, keeps your attention to see just what is going to happen next.

LOVED IT! But, read Hour of the Hunter and Kiss of the Bees first.

As always with J.A.Jance books, up to the last paragraph keeps you wondering......I was intrigued by the Indian Lore in this particular book.

Retired sheriff works to solve a 30 year old murder.
Good story provides some insight into the life of Native Americans.

Thirty years ago, a local Papago girl was brutally murdered, her butchered body found stuffed into a large cooler left on the side of Highway 86. No one was ever charged for the crime. Few even cared.

And no one suspected it was only the beginning.

Retired Pima County Sheriff Brandon Walker's work with The Last Chance-an exclusive, nationwide fraternity of former lawmen investigating unsolved homicides-has brought new purpose to his life. A gruesome, thirty-year-old cold case leads him into a strange world at the unlikely border between forensic science and tribal mysticism: a place where evil hides behind a perfect facade. A long-forgotten murder in the Arizona desert now threatens to bring home a new horror for Walker and his family, who have already survived the dark hunger of two human monsters. Walker, a relentless ex-cop, is the only person who can still unravel a blood know of terror and obession before the innocent die again.

A suspenseful novel. Reminds me of Tony Hillerman's books.
