Book Description:
"People die every second of the day ... that's part of life. But how many times in the history of the world do we have a chance to create a game show as perfect as Food Freak?"

So speaks TV producer Artie Herman, as murder meets Hollywood when adorably hip caterer Madeline Bean joins the oddball staff of TV's hottest new culinary series. Bean, her event-planning business in a lull, gets a lucky break, filling in as a writer for a hot-hot-hot game show featuring a dishy celebrity chef and cookoff competitions with teams of amateurs. However, the show's on the brink of disaster, with the head writer missing and staffers quitting or disappearing weekly ... until a secret room, a priceless packet of Kool-Aid, and a bubbling Cajun gumbo from hell bring Maddie face-to-face with a murderer.

I enjoyed this book a lot! It is part of a series, but I hadn't read the previous books and had no problems enjoying this.

I have found a new mystery writer. She is great. The story kept moving at a good pace.

Maddie Bean and her staff are all looking for part time employment during their slow season. Maddie is offered a job as writer for the hot new game show. The head writer can't be found and they need someone to take his place for one last show. Maddie is tickled pink to be working on a TV show, however the missing writer concerns her. And she soon finds out something isn't quite right at the show. So of course she has to do some snooping. A series of deaths all on a Wed night, the same night the snow airs are cause for her concern. She is hit over the head in her office, this after her office is trashed and of course she is using the missing writers office, so she is sure all this has to be connected. Lots of odd characters and inside info on TV producing.

Jerrilyn Farmer's Madeline Bean series is a breath of fresh air. Although Mad Bean and her friends are foodies (she runs a catering business in Hollywood), they aren't snobs and don't overdo the food stuff so much that it makes me feel bad (as some other authors do). The mysteries are fun, fresh, and enjoyable to read. This one is as good the others.
