Book Description:
Literary Times Margot Berglund owns a needlework and wool store called Crewel World. She's fifty-three, a widow and an expert in her field. Her store does very well for a small town, and she is able to support two part time staff as well as other casual workers. Her husband Aaron had been a wealthy man but despite this she lives a simple life, causing speculation among the town's people.
Margot's older sister, Betsy, comes to live with her. When Betsy was young she ran off to join the navy and married a sailor and now her second husband is divorcing her. Betsy seems to be planning to sponge off Margot, she sees living off Margot an easy solution to her problems, at least for the short term.
In the idyllic world of Margot there are some problems. Her landlord wants her building so he can build something new and charge more, but Margot has a cheap lease that is good for another four years. So Joe sues Margot regularly and threatens her too, but she has a good lawyer to protect her. She also has a "Wanta be" successor who wants to run her own needlework store in a town that cannot support two. Irene is a little nuts and readily admits that she wants something to happen to Margot so that she can take over. Unfortunately for Irene she has no people skills and is not very successful with the customers.
A few nights after her arrival, Betsy comes home and finds Crewel World trashed and Margot murdered. The mystery begins and Betsy takes it into her own hands when she thinks the police aren't doing enough.... Michelle Sawyer

The first in the series, and a very good read. It's fast, the characters are colorful and even though I'm not into needlepoint crafts, it's a fascinating way to learn about it. I'm looking forward to reading others in this series.

Enjoyable read although, a bit slow moving. I do recommend it for someone who likes needle arts such as knitting and needlepoint. I enjoy those things and I feel it will be more a satisfying read to someone who knows about those things than someone who does not. But don't take my word for it! =D

When Betsy arrived in Excelsior, Ninnesota, all she wanted was to visit her sister Margot and to get her life in order. She never dreamed her sister would give her a place to stay and a job at her needlecraft shop. In fact, things had never looked so good-until Margot was murdered..
In a town this friendly, it's hard to imagine who could have committed such a horrible act. But Betsy has a few ideas. There's an ex-employee who wants to start her own needlework store. And there's the landlord who wanted Margot out. Now Betsy's putting together a list of motives and suspects to figure out this killer's pattern of crime.

This is the first in Needlepoint Series. I really enjoyed this and plan to read the rest.

Joy L. (I think I have had most of the books in this series for quite awhile, but just finally got around to reading the first one. What a great series! This, for me, was one of those books that you automatically feel cozy with after the first two pages and just know you are going to like. The characters are all so interesting. While I was somewhat surprised to find out who done it, I have to say I kept flipping back and forth between likely suspects for the whole book. Very glad I have a whole bunch of them to go through!
An easy read. Entertaining. A mystery centered around crewel/needlepoint/yarn shop.
Wonderful cozy--the first in a series that was new to me. I was quite surprised that the person I thought would be the main character of the series was actually the murder victim instead. I'm quite looking forward to collecting the others.
Enjoyed this start to her stitchery series. I do all the stuff she writes about and enjoy the characters. Hope they develop nicely for this cozy series.

The first round in an interesting mystery series. One is guessing along with her as to the resolution of the crime. Good read.
I love the Monica Ferris books; warm fuzzy and a fun read.
First in a series. Enjoyed this very much. Good story well told, good characters. Now I'm ready to find the others in the series.
