Book Description:
Laine Tavish is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life in the small town of Angel's Gap, Maryland, as the proprietor of Remember When, an antique treasures and gift shop. At least, that's what everyone in Angel's Gap thinks. They have no idea that she used to be Elaine O'Hara, daughter of the notorious con man Big Jack O'Hara. Or that she grew up moving from place to place, one step ahead of the law...

Laine's past has just caught up with her, though - in a very dramatic way. Her long-lost uncle suddenly turned up in her shop, leaving only a cryptic warning before dying in the street, run down by a car. Soon afterward, her home is ransacked. Now it's up to Laine, and a sexy stranger named Max Gannon, to find out who's chasing her and why.

The answer lies in a hidden fortune - a fortune that will change not only Laine's life but also the lives of future generations. And danger and death will surround that fortune for years to come. Until New York City detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas gets on the case.

This book has 2 distinct stories in it - one story uses the writing style of Nora Roberts and the other story uses the JD Robb style with Eve and Roarke in it. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book.

Really great idea to have a Nora Roberts and a J. D. Robb continuing story! It was hard to put down. This is the only In Death book I have read out of order, but I had bought it for a friend, then wanted to read it out of curiosity; hoping it was as good as the reviews. It was!

I adore the way the present and the future are combined to form the details for more murder and suspense

Nora Roberts is good no matter what type of book she writes. As an added bonus, this is part of a futuristic series giving a sneak peek at what technology might be like in the future!

Unusual book, started with writing as Nora Roberts in present time and finished stoy in the future, writing as her alter ego, JD Robb

It was different, and yet now I want to read more of them. Usually just into the romance books but this has a little romance to keep it going.

There are two stories in this book. The first story takes place in the present with a hunt for stolen treasure. But not all of it is recovered. In the second book, the story picks up 50 years later when a book about the treasure sets off murder and a new hunt for the missing treasure.

In part one, Nora Roberts introduces us to Laine Tavish, known to the folks in Angel's Gap, Maryland, as the proprietor of Remember When, an antique treasures and gift shop. They have no idea that she used to be Elaine O'Hara...or that she grew up moving from place to place, one step ahead of the law. But Laine's past has just caught up with her. Her long-lost uncle has visited her shop, leaving a cryptic warning before dying in the street, run down by a car. Soon afterward, Laine's home is ransacked. Now it's up to her, and an enigmatic stranger named Max Gannon, to find out who's chasing her, and why. The answer lies in a hidden fortone that will change Laine's life.
In Part Two, Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas is on the case. The treasure that Laine and Max sought has never been fully recovered. And now someone else is pursuing the missing gems...someone who's willing to kill for them. Sharp-witted and sexy, Eve is used to traveling in the shadowy corners outside the law, in a future where crime meets cutting-edge technology. She will attempt to track down the diamonds once and for all-and stop the danger and death that has surrounded them for decades.
