For Dr. David Beck, the loss was shattering. And every day for the past eight years, he has relived the horror of what happened. The gleaming lake. The pale moonlight. The piercing screams. The night his wife was taken. The last night he saw her alive.
Everyone tells him it’s time to move on, to forget the past once and for all. But for David Beck, there can be no closure. A message has appeared on his computer, a phrase only he and his dead wife know. Suddenly Beck is taunted with the impossible–that somewhere, somehow, Elizabeth is alive.
Beck has been warned to tell no one. And he doesn’t. Instead, he runs from the people he trusts the most, plunging headlong into a search for the shadowy figure whose messages hold out a desperate hope.
But already Beck is being hunted down. He’s headed straight into the heart of a dark and deadly secret–and someone intends to stop him before he gets there.

DON'T START THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO
I finished this, my first Harlan Coben book, in less than 48 hours. Once I started it, that's all I wanted to do, solve the mystery. I read 10-12 books a month, mainly mysteries. Trust me when I tell you that most are drivel, a shameful waste of the trees to print them. When you stumble across a writer this talented you seek out all his other works.

Excellent book! Keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing what's going to happen next. Not one of those suspense books that makes it painfully obvious who the bad guy is from the beginning. Surprises lurk within the pages up until the very end!

What a great plot! The characters are well-developed, and the storyline moves super fast. It has more twists and turns than "the long and winding road." Very hard to put down once you start reading. This is the first book I've read by Coben, and I will definitely read more of his work. Feel free to email with any questions. ~LeAnn

This book was well written, twists and turns everywhere--with Coben, you never know where the story will end up! Couldn't put it down.

This is the first time I have read this author. He has a wonderful way of writing. Got, bogged down as many writers seem to do in the middle, but in the end pulled off a good twist. I enjoyed the ride even though the parts that seemed inconsistant with the storyline.

What a great read! Finished it in practically one sitting! Coben really knows how to write a rollercoaster suspense novel that never lets up. And believe me, it doesn't end in a whimper.
