Although it is a good addition to the popular Deborah Knott series, it is not her best book. There are still all the familiar family members and other characters from previous books that we enjoy reading about. If you enjoy Maron, you will like the book. I thought it was just so-so.

The 14th outing with Judge Knott and family. This is an easy fast read, but for some reason I had a hard time sinking into the story. Still a lot of shifts in POV, from first-person with Deborah Knott to multiple third-person. I could do with less of that, for instance I don't feel that whatshername's parent's objections to her Mexican boyfriend are necessary to the story. Still a lot of discussion about rampant growth crowding out rural living. I did like how Knott's concern about her initial appointment led her to do some unethical snooping. I did not like the subplot with the preacher, that whole thing felt false. Usually I see the villain pretty early but this time when it was revealed I couldn't even remember the character. Probably my own fault, I did put it down several times before finishing. Oh well, more books are waiting.
