The Last of the Red-Hot Vampires (Dark Ones, Bk 5) Author:Katie MacAlister
Book Description:
Physicist Portia Harding's life is grounded in facts. There's nothing that can't be explained by logic and science...until she travels with her best friend to England and accidentally summons an ethereal virtue who bequeaths her gift of weather control to Portia.
Now Portia is walking around with a literal cloud over her head, and a heart stoppingly handsome maniac trying to kidnap her. But Theo North is no run-of-the-mill lunatic. He's a nephilim - the son of an angel - who needs Portia's help to change his fate. Problem is, Portia's down-to-earth attitude frustrates beings from both heavenly and hellish realms, and gets Theo turned into a vampire. But at least he has Portia to satisfy his newfound hungers...and possibly save his soul.

I didn't finish this book - Portia really annoyed me and I couldn't even warm to her in a love to hate her kind of way. I just wanted to smack her and tell her to get over herself.
However... that particular character aside - this is very typical Katie MacAlister and bound to be a hit with any fan!

Good book! Portia, the heroine, spends a little too long denying the obvious. Once you get past that it's a good, quick read!

Entertaining Katie McAllister fare. The main character, Portia, is not terribly believable though. She does a complete personality 180 as soon as she meets the yummy hero, Theo.
However, for a fluff romance, it's fun.

The main character, Portia, was annoying. Yes, I get it. She's a scientist. She's a skeptic. So it takes her a while before she'll admit that anything paranormal is going on. But come on! In my opinion she waited WAY too long to believe, which cause me to not believe in her character. But once she does believe, she falls into it all the way, which seemed to contradictory to how hard she tried not to believe in the beginning. So that kinda spoiled the book for me and I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

Portia Harding is the ultimate sceptic, with a logical explanation for everything mystical. Making her the perfect person to inherit the powers of a Virtue, allowing her to harness and control weather.
Theondre North is in need of a pardon from a Virtue in order to become a real member of the Court of Divine Blood, so he's willing to help Portia pass the trials so that she can pardon him.
The energy and passion that builds between them can only lead to one thing... faith in true love.
I love Katie MacAlister's writing... whether contemporary, historical or paranormal. Her characters are brave, clever, emotional and hilarious, as is true in this book. Not to mention Theo is a serious HOTTIE. And her storylines will keep you so engaged that although you want the hero and heroine to find a happy ending, you don't want to leave their wonderful world... this book was over too soon. But I loved every steamy, intriguing, brilliant and funny second of it!

This whole line has jumped the shark. I barely skimmed it 'cause it was so dumb.

I like Katie MacAlister's work but this was definitely not one of her best.

The title has nothing to do with the book since he's not a vampire for long and almost at the very end only. But it's still a good book.

This was the last of the Dark Ones series for now. I actually liked it better then the last few. The story was a little different. It seemed like there were all almost the same book with the ending being a big showdown with a demon. This one had all the same elements of the rest but with a different story and ending.

Not up to par with the other Dark Ones stories. The hero was good, but the main character didn't become likable until about half way through.

My Least favorite Katie book. I love her, but she can't write a scientist who is logical in a convincing way.

I found Portia to be a very annoying character. Other than that it was an easy read.
