Book Description:
Mila creates headlines around the world when she is rescued from an unpopulated island off the coast of Florida. Now a teenager, she has been raised by dolphins from the age of four.

Researchers teach Mila language and music. She learns, too, about rules and expectations, about locked doors and broken promises, diappointment and betrayal.

The more Mila finds out what it means to be human, the more deeply she longs for her ocean home. . . .

Really good YA novel by newbery medalist Karen Hesse.
Mila, a young girl has been raised by dolphins, then 'rescued' by humans who try to teach her the 'benefits' of human-style living. Milla, to the dismay of the researchers studying the rescued girl, would still prefer to live with her dolphin friends. Can Mila escape from her rescuers, who are angry at her ingratitude (and loath to lose a research subject) to return to her friends in the sea?

Good kids' book, but I enjoyed reading it as well, and I am in my thirties!

This was an interesting read. I thought Mila really made a nice effort to try to be human, she sounded like a nice girl.

A sad commentary on forcing one's beliefs and ideas of "normal" on another. A bit too deep for my 10 year old who read it for her school's summer reading requirement.

With the discovery of feral children, this book forces you so see things from a very different perspective. It was a required book for Child Development course and I re-read it several times just for pleasure. Excellent book and good for teenage readers.

This was an interesting fictional story of a feral child raised by dolphins of all things. You can find true stories of feral children on Wikipedia. This one though less feasible was very philosophical. It really made you think about what is to be a human.
