Book Description:
Out of the Ashes of the Holocaust, a Magnificent Novel of Indomitable Courage and Hope

Ellie, a young American photojournalist, finds herself in the Jerusalem of 1947. She unwittingly becomes a pawn in a political chess game when she photographs some ancient scrolls discovered by Bedouins. David seems to love her dearly, but Moshe has a purpose and commitment in life that intrigues her more than she can say. Through it all, Ellie discovers a people, a spirit and a person who profoundly change the direction of her life.

This first book in THE ZION CHRONICLES vividly portrays the intense struggle of the Jewish people in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the forces, within and without, which engulf the Middle East in conflict and controversy even today.

This is an AMAZING series! I recommend that you start with the Shiloh Legacy series, and "Shiloh Autumn" and The Zion Covenant books. The same characters are in all the books, and even though you can read each individual series on their own, they do build on each other. Warning... there are 13 books ahead of this one, and you will get involved! :) Thank God for PBS! :)

Bode Thoene's historical novels are well-written. The setting is in Jerusalem, post World War II. Her characters are believable humans in realistic circumstances of this extremely troubled time. It was hard to put down, but I also needed time to digest what I had read. It is exciting. There is real danger, real situations, just as there was during that time when the Zionists are trying to take back the territory given to the Jews by God thousands of years before. It is just before the withdrawal of the British government in Palestine. This is a keeper.

Interesting kick off to the series. While I know this book is an Inspirational I could have done with a little less of the religious preachiness which crept in at times HOWEVER, the story itself is engrossing and the characters likable. Will continue with the series.

1 of 5 in a series. I have all five. They are in a boxed set if you would want all of them. The first book in The Zion Chronicles vividly portrays the intense struggle of the Jewish people in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the forces, within and without, which engulf the Middle East in conflict and controversy even today.

This is the 1st book in a series of 5 books. It centers on Christians and Jews surrounding the conflicts around the birth of the modern state of Israel.
