My Horizontal Life : A Collection of One-Night Stands Author:Chelsea Handler
Book Description:
In this raucous collection of true-life stories, actress and comedian Chelsea Handler recounts her time spent in the social trenches with that wild, strange, irresistible, and often gratifying beast: the one-night stand.
You've either done it or know someone who has: the one-night stand, the familiar outcome of a night spent at a bar, sometimes the sole payoff for your friend's irritating wedding, or the only relief from a disastrous vacation. Often embarrassing and uncomfortable, occasionally outlandish, but most times just a necessary and irresistible evil, the one-night stand is a social rite as old as sex itself and as common as a bar stool.
Enter Chelsea Handler. Gorgeous, sharp, and anything but shy, Chelsea loves men and lots of them. My Horizontal Life chronicles her romp through the different bedrooms of a variety of suitors, a no-holds-barred account of what can happen between a man and a sometimes very intoxicated, outgoing woman during one night of passion. From her short fling with a Vegas stripper to her even shorter dalliance with a well-endowed little person, from her uncomfortable tryst with a cruise ship performer to her misguided rebound with a man who likes to play leather dress-up, Chelsea recalls the highs and lows of her one-night stands with hilarious honesty. Encouraged by her motley collection of friends (aka: her partners in crime) but challenged by her family members (who at times find themselves a surprise part of the encounter), Chelsea hits bottom and bounces back, unafraid to share the gritty details. My Horizontal Life is one guilty pleasure you won't be ashamed to talk about in the morning.

Oh my goodness, this is flat out the funniest thing I've ever read. Usually I don't so much as crack a smile when I read something funny, but this book had me laughing so hard I was crying--- my husband came in from the other room to find out what was wrong! Get your hands on this book and then save it for a day when you really need a pick-me-up.

There is one thing that all memoirs should have... redemption. Or at least be so funny that it doesn't matter. This fell so far from the mark of being a good memoir. It was just - sad. I would have loved to see her end up in rehab and maybe married to someone with no sexually transmitted diseases. It was like *giggle* a story *giggle* about this *giggle* little girl *giggle* in this grown up *giggle* body - that drank entirely too much (and *giggle* thought it was funny), would find the nearest guy and go screw - maybe if his penis wasn't too big or small or whatever other problems the author seemed to have. It wasn't even that funny. What a piece of junk. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

This was an easy enough read but I was a bit disappointed in the content. The book starts strong and gets weaker as it goes forward.

I thought this book was just "OK". It definitely had some funny moments in it, but it wasn't as good as I had thought/hoped it would have been. I'm going to read 'Are You There, Vodka?, It's Me Chelsea', next. I'm hoping that this one is better.

I have to say I'm very disappointed in this book. I didn't find it funny at all. If Chelsea was a witty writer then it would have potential to be great but it reads like she believes that just because she put it down on paper it's going to be funny. I also don't find her funny on TV either. Now I do find Laurie Notaro hilarious. I highly recommend anything written by her.

I will admit this is more of a book to read in short stints........you know, when you need a grin or two. She tells it like it is, leaves nothing out and will definitely leave you laughing. A great sense of humor.

Hilarious! Not a book for the prudish, however. If you are not easily offended by un-PC humor and you have ovaries, you will laugh out loud at this book.

I read this in one day. So much fun! This is a girl after my own heart! If you are looking for something light to cheer you up, this is it. Almost as good as a night out with the girls. (And just as an aside...if you like this, read "Escape from Houdidni Mountain" by Pleasant Gehman,)

i'm a little confused as to why she called this "a collection of one night stands" when in some cases she didn't even sleep with the guy and two of the stories are just about a crazy gay friend of hers. either way it was pretty funny. I dont like Chelsea Handler very much, but i still liked this book. great light hearted quick read.
Well, it's no Tucker Max. I did enjoy the book, I can't lie. It's a quick and easy read. Unfortunately, unlike Tucker Max, I only laughed out loud maybe 3 or 4 times. So while it was good I spent more time wondering if she really had as much sex as she says because it seems like she passed out a lot more than actually did anyhing with the guys!
You will enjoy it, but read this first, before Tucker Max and then you won't be comparing it to him the whole time.
