Author: Lilith Saintcrow

Since it isn't clear from the blurb...

The interesting bit about the schoolchildren being eaten, finding the stash of books and reading them, gathering/creating weapons, and actually fighting the monster that is eating the schoolchildren all happens before the story even begins. The first scene is her coming home from killing the monster.

It reads more like the 2nd book in a trilogy than it does a stand-alone novel. I actually put the book down and went to check online to make sure it wasn't the sequel to some other book.

Paranormal romance by Lilith Saintcrow. Francesca is a librarian, who stumbled across some old, volumes of demonology, or sorcery. Shortly thereafter, she discovers that demons are killing children in her city. She begins using the texts to help her get rid of the demons. All of this happened before the book starts. Then Ryan and his partner, who are from the organization that kills demons show up.

The beginning of the book is a little awkward, and confusing, and it drags a little. But, after the initial set up, when the action and romance begins, the story becomes very interesting and compelling. Great HEA. I enjoyed the book.

Very enjoyable first book. I liked the characters a lot. Good chemistry between Chessie and Ryan, fun plot. Easy read, book isn't very long. This book could grow into a good series.
