Deceptively simple story and illustration. However, reading it over and over, really brings to the forefront the extraordinary "package" this book is. So many metaphors are represented in this book in all components, narrative, design and illustrations. I think everyone who reads it will find something that speaks to them. The author/illustrator is "aware" of the many metaphors, but states, "he wasn't thinking of any of that" when working on the narrative. This shows how deeply ingrained book creators put who they are (without even knowing) into their creations. If you really want a comprehensive interpretation of this book's components, read "Exploring the Artwork of Peter Brown's Mr. Tiger Goes Wild," by Sylvia Panteleo and Georgette Walker in the Journal of Children's Literature, Volume 43, Issue 1, pp 38-47, Spring 2017. Make sure to have a copy of the book in front of you so you can explore the things the authors discuss and appreciate them in new ways. This book is a treasure I will come back to as a model as a perfect representation of an exemplary PB in all aspects. (less)

Worth the read even though it was tough to hear of the challenging mother daughter relationship.
