I loved this book as a child and to read it again with my son is like visiting with an old friend. Marguerite Henry displayed her wonderful writing ability in this book. Instead of ponies, horses, or donkeys, she includes a cat prominently in the story. If you are a fan of Marguerite de Angeli and her books about early colonial life in Pennsylvania, you will love this one by Henry. Must be something about that first name "Marguerite"!

This was such a good and moving book. I have read The Diary of Samuel Pepys but this book was the best fiction rendering of the plague that I have read thus far. It has another theme running through it: the theological practice differences between old pastor and new pastor. I found it so interesting.

I was delighted to discover Catherine Aird a few years ago, although she has been writing for a number of years. Her books are well-written and I love her take on the partnership of a detective inspector and his constable---the one who would be the inspector's last choice. Parting Breath is a good sample of her work. I haven't read one that I didn't like, though.
