Thank you so very much for posting this!  I am a brand-new knitter and even I will be able to make a scarf with the basic pattern provided!  I am so excited to do this.

So excited that I will actually set foot into Wal-Mart to get the yarn - from the posts on the Ravelry group board it looks like this is one of the few places to pick up that Delft Blue.  But ooooohhhhhh I dislike Wal-Mart............ I will get over it for a good cause, however!

Thanks again!

Yes, thank you for posting this!  I'm also a real beginner but I think I'll be able to knit this.  How nice to knit something for such a wonderful cause!

Thanks for posting this.  I'm almost finished with my afghan.  Wal-Mart huh...I'm with you Nora I hate to shop there.  Has everyone checked Michaels and Joann for the color?

Rose,

I don't do WM either but if you go to project site there is a link to search for stores in your area.  I'm in CA and according to the site, they sell the yarn at both Michaels and Joann.

i cannot find this yarn anywhere. I've been to two wal*marts, a micheal's and a local store called "The Yarn Basket" and no one has it.

Thanks Sam.  I love shopping online.  How much did they charge for shipping?

Sam, being out of  stock might mean that everyone is working on these scarves!  I'm going to check Michaels and Joanns this weekend and will report back.

I stopped by Joann's today and they had the white but not the blue....bummer....I might have to give in and go to wallyworld unless I can come up with some other errands to justify driving all the way to Michaels.

Hope y'all are having better luck!

Thanks for posting this. I started on my first scarf today.  I checked my local Michaels, AC Moore and JoAnn's today for the Delft blue without luck. My last hope was WalMart and at least they had several skeins.  Looks like my TBR pile will remain untouched for a while now.

Thanks, Sam, for posting this thread (or yarn?) :)

I forwarded the link a while ago to some local friends who knit, and a lot of them were excited about it.  One of them is convinced she can teach me to knit well enough to turn out scarves of my own.  We'll see what they look like.

How many scarves can you get from one blue and one white skein of yarn?  (Or do I need more than one skein of each per scarf?)  Has anyone finished one yet?   Just wondering.

I went to Wal-mart on my lunch hour today and picked up the yarn.  Hope to start on the scarf tonight.  What a great idea.

Dana, you should be able to get at least one scarf from the 2 skeins, maybe 2. It's been so long since I made a scarf, but there's a lot of yardage in a skein of Red Heart.

Lisaane, did you get it figured out?

I have to use up some of my scrap yarn before I can go buy more, or Mom will die of heart attack- it's taking over the living room! But then I am going to do one or two of these. Maybe one knit and one crochet, I crochet quite well but am a beginning knitter.

I started one of the knit scarves last night.  I really like the way the pattern is working up and I love that Delft blue color.  I told a couple of friends about it today and I am going to send them the link.

Yay, I'm so glad I saw this!  I just dragged my knitting bag out again last weekend and this is a perfect project to get me motivated again.

And it's in my skill level.    :)

I have completed two scarves.  I'll probably get another one done before the deadline but I am working on Christmas gifts right now.

I just found the yarn at Wal-Mart on Tuesday, so I'm ready to get started soon. Jo-Ann's only had the white, not the Delft Blue. It's a nice project to get me fingers moving again.
