Instead of FIFO. The first person declines the offer after it sits for a day, then  it times out on the 2nd person in line. The 3rd person must have had it on auto request.  I accept the request.  Just logged on to find it cancelled by the requestor and on WL hold for a 4th person.  This is why I usually try to find a buddy that I can post a WL book too first.  But after checking a few out, I didn't find it on anyone's list and got tired of looking.  I could have mailed it off yesterday when I mailed a bunch of other books.  I held those books for a couple days waiting for this one to be accepted.

I know people complain about posting WL books to your buddies too often but this is why a lot of people do just that.

While that is frustrating, I generally like to post using FIFO.  At least now 4 people are weeded out of the list and now hopefully the book will go to someone who actually really wants it.  I really wish that people would pay better attention to their WL and only place books on there that they are willing and able to get.  Hopefully, the new WL changes might alleviate some of that.

I do like you do too.  It drives me nuts to have to sit there for a week trying to GIVE a book to someone!!  My feeling is, if you aren't sure you want it, just stick it on your reminder list.  You can always put it on your WL later on if you decide you do want it.

Of course there is the exception where someone already got the book, or just got offered a copy in another ISBN and has to cancel this one.  That seems like that isn't the norm though.

I feel your pain!!  Whats the book??

I don't mind when they just cancel it and it moves on - I prefer that to having it time out.  I posted a book that's wishlisted the other day and it's still sitting there waiting.  Still, Melissa's right - it does "clean up" the wishlist!

BUT, I mail out about 2-3 times a week, so it's really not a problem for me if it takes a while.

I have a request pending -- it's supposed to be mailed by 3/7.  I clicked on the sender's profile; "no longer an account holder"    Great.   I have the exact same thing going on at SwapaDVD.

I have to sit and wait until it times out before I find out if there is another member with the same title.

I just had a requested wishlisted book time out after it wasn't mailed on time. I was looking forward to getting that book.   = (   Maybe another copy will come up quickly.

I hope the fourth person accepts the request soon. I go by the post office everyday to pick up my daughter from the bus stop so mailing every day/other day doesn't effect my schedule too much. Definetely understand how frustrating it would be for swappers who have to travel further or out of their way ... especially with gas costing what it does.

Here's what I do - I post my WL book as soon as I start reading it.  If the person accepts right away, no biggie - I just choose the latest mail date.  If I have to wait for the request to go through several people, then it's no big deal because I'm still reading anyway.  It takes the headache out of the process for me and it puts me more in control.

While I can understand about posting to buddies WL, there is something to be said in posting it to the FIFO line.  I don't have a lot of books on my WL but I'm pretty far down and appreciate it when people post to the FIFO line so that if there are inactive people ahead of me I get moved up faster.

it is frustrating waiting on them to accept (I'm on here all the time too) but it does help weed out inactive members

I travel a bit on business, so when I post my books (usually 10 or more at a time) I wait until I know I'll be in town a while.  It kind p*sses me off when the book has to go through several wishers, and is still pending when I leave on my next trip.

Denise you should send in feedback to R&R about this. When someone cancels their account (or their account is shut down for some reason) it should remove their wish list from the system. So I wouldn't think this should be happening to you - sounds like a glitch.

Some of us in the WL line do want our books!  Don't skip over us!  *puppy dog eyes*

I understand your frustration.  I try to post my books in order that I can send them out on my days off from work.  Well, I posted 2 heavily wished for books.  Both went thru 2 sets of 48 hrs hold before being accepted.  So now I need to wait for my next days off.  Minor inconvenience but a pain none-the-less

But there are members like me who really rely on the FIFO, I only have 2 buddies!

OK, it appears I'm in a weird minority, but I -like- FIFO, it's one great benefit of many on this site.  I'll be sad to see it going away/modified by the new ranking system.

I was half way through with it when I posted it. I posted it because I had 3 other WL books to post.  So I figured, I get this one posted while I finish it up.  I don't like to make a habit of this incase the book gets damaged while I'm reading it and I have to cancel.  You just never know.  But it's still pending and now I got an order from my shelf.  So the other person will either have to wait until probably Mon for me to mail the book while waiting for this one to be accepted. Or I have to make 2 trips to the PO.  I can use the printed postage and put it in the blue box.  But still, it's out of the way for me and I have to load the kids up in the car or drag them out in the cold to walk down to my mail box which is down the street.  It's just annoying.  Someone could have had this book in the mail to them already.

It's Sex, Murder and a Double Latte by Kyra Davis.  So I've reduced the line by 3 people now, maybe 4 if this person doesn't respond. Only about 14 more people to go.

I'm new, and have no buddies....so, if nobody posts to FIFO then I won't get my WL books  :(  I have them on auto-requests and have no conditions.  What is the new ranking system?

They are working on changing the WL. You'll have to rank your WL books in order of importance to you.  You'll earn points while your waiting in line.  You'll be able to put some WL books on hold and keep your shelf active.  I wish I could do that now. Keep my shelf up but put the WL books on hold for a while.  I think the idea is that by making people rank their WL books, it'll force people to put books on hold that they aren't sure they want or to keep it off their WL altogther so they have less books to rank.  Thereby causing the WL lines to get shorter and move faster.  Or something like that.

I would gladly post more books to the WL FIFO. But this is why I try to find a buddy first.  Because  it's been sitting in WL limbo for 5 days now.  But at least I have another request that I can mail out with it when it finally gets accepted.

It's my understanding (and no, I'm not going to go look it up again because I'm just sick to death of all the new WL stuff) that all WL entries will be on auto request?  If this is the case, how does that weed out inactive members?  Seems to me that only results in people sending out books to WL'ers who may or may not mark them received, because they might not even be active anymore.

I look forward to someone telling me how wrong I am.

Shannie: I added you to my Buddy list.  So we are now buddies.  You have a short WL but it looks like we have similar tastes in books.

No, Kris, I'm pretty sure you will have a choice like it is on Swap-a-DVD.  I have my top 5 or 6 wishlisted DVDs over there on auto request, but I can never seem to keep more than 7 or 8 credits "in the bank" at one time, so I don't want to autorequest every single thing in case someone posts a bunch I want and I run out of credits!!  :)  That's the main idea of a 48-hour hold, to give people time to check mail and buy credits if need be...  but autorequest is the default there, and they certainly encourage you to keep as many as you can that way it makes things MUCH faster and easier!!  :)

Here I have most of my really really wanted WL books on auto, basically the same as swap-a-dvd only the books are only ranked in my head not on the site.  ;)

Shannon, I wish I had seen your post yesterday- I just posted Highland Guardian to FIFO, but would gladly have posted it to your WL had I known someone who was looking for it!  Just keep on posting in the forums, create a profile, and you will start to accumulate buddies.  By the way- you don't have to have someone on your buddy list in order to post or receive a WL book from them- that can be done by anyone.  It doesn't hurt to have buddies though- feel free to add me to yours if you want!

First, the default for putting books on the WL will be auto-request. So when they convert the list over, the books will probably all be converted to AR. Second, if someone has books on AR but no credits available, the member is skipped but does not lose his place in line. Third, If we send a WL book to an inactive member, the system automatically marks the book received.

Hope this helps!

I don't understand being frustrated by the wait while it clears people out. You have 2 days to accept the request and 5 days to mail the book after it's requested.  So even if you only go to the PO once a week I don't see the big deal.   I can see the point of the poster who travels a lot, but I really don't get it for everyone else.  Use printable postage and drop it in the box at your house if going to the post office is a problem.

Yeah, it shouldn't be on the list if they don't want it, but I really don't get getting upset over it. Why work yourself up over something you can't change?

I don't mind the delay so much except when the book ends up on my bookshelf because nobody accepted it. Sure, I'm first in FIFO, but when I post a WL book, I pretty much expect to mail it out and not have to put it in my storage box instead, KWIM? :)

Thanks for reducing the line for me! I'm in the WL line for that book. I'm always looking for an opportunity to move up in line and get more books...Like I need more books! Feel free to post any books you want to my WL and add me to your buddy list if you want.
