Just when was this first published, anyway? So we're looking at the various reprints of books and wondering... so when was this first published? Add its original publication date as a tag, using the format: Originally Published XXXX So Janet Evanovich's One for the Money would be Originally Published 1994. You can get these for mysteries at Stop! You're Killing Me! Fantastic Fiction is also a good source. Get out there and tag a few! ETA: Added "Originally" to the tag. In my first efforts at carrying out the mission, I have discovered that well-known, classic authors that have written several books over a long career (example: Tom Wolfe) may be a decent place to start. Or maybe Diana Gabaldon, or Ellis Peters, or Agatha Christie...

Just passin' through... I like the weird tags, lol. You know, I think this sort of tag has the possibility to confuse people. Maybe not confuse, but I think a lot of folks won't understand WTH it means, so it'll mean nothing. There's a publication date (assuming the listing is complete) on every book. Your format of "Published 1994" just looks like those nitwits who list an older edition under the wrong ISBN, IMO. "Originally Published 1994" might be more clear. Or I could be wrong. :-)

Actually, as I was tagging last night, i was thinking the same thing. Maybe i will go back and edit them.

Yes, I had that thought too! Published ... is much cleaner, but I think people might get confused.

I've beent thinking that this would be really useful information for books that were published quite some time ago, then enjoyed a "revival" because they were made into a movie, or their author wrote a really popular book, or something like that. For example: Michael Crichton's older books - Sphere, Congo, etc.; The Pillars of the Earth; Dan Brown's earlier books - Digital Fortress and that other one about the Vatican.
