New challenge list 2010 Challenge - post your list here

So I really enjoyed our 9-9-9 challenge  -- 9 books in 9 categories by 9-09-2009  and I started thinking about a challenge for 2010.  I first thought about 10 books, 10 categories by Oct 10 -- but well, I don't want to fall into a rut and keep doing the same thing -- I mean what am going to do for 2020?  20 books in 20 categories? 

   Any one have any cool ideas for a challenge for 2010? 

How about a play on that one, but something like "new" authors?  Like authors you've never read before.  This way it will give everybody a chance to try new authors that they may not have read otherwise.  Silly probably, but it popped in my head.  LOL

I like the idea of new authors. I know I tend to stick with ones I love but I'm running out. I'm just about finished with Maryjanice Davidisons "Queen Betsy" series, I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse books, amost finished the Women of the Otherworld books, and the House of Night books. I need to find some new authors and some new series to read!

10 new authors sounds like fun!   I would love to do it.

new authors is good.  the 9-9-9 challenge was a little too challenging for me, but new authors i could do.  i try to make sure i try out at least one new author a month already (and preferably 2-3).  i've got way too many complete to date series from authors where i've never read any of their books, and some of those stacks are pretty big - like Jacquelyn Frank.

Okay, but just 10 new authors is not enough, we have to make it more challenging than that.  That could just be 10 new books.    But 10-10-10 would be too many.  But 10 new authors in 10 different categories is good, but 10 books in each category is overboard.  So let's put our brains together for the final piece of the challenge.

10 new authors, 10 new series started, 10 series finished? in 10 months!

I like Anne's idea too --  10 new authors alone isn't challenging enough for me.

  For 10 new authors, 10 new series -- can they overlap?  Or should it be reader's discretion?

What do you mean by "overlap"?  And that's a great idea, because some series, like the one I just started, only have like 3 or 4 books in them.  You can challenge yourself more and use authors that have 7 or 8 if you want...LOL  I think it may be hard to find smaller series, but that makes it all the more fun. 

Oh yeah, and are we going to make a "LIST" thread as well.  I gotta put my thinking cap on, because unlucky for me, a lot of the series I've been meaning to get into, I've read the first book this year and tarnished it for my challenge.  LOL

10 old favorites is good, too! And yes they will most likely overlap in some cases.  A new author and a new series, would count for both categories.

Okay.  I'm thoroughly confused...LOL  Is it just 10 new authors, 10 new series in 10 months or are we doing categories too?  Because I made a list that I'll have to revamp...LOL So if it's 10 categories you could use the same author twice, I'm assuming, as long as it's a new author to you.  Ohh, that makes it much harder.

Okay.  That's way different than I was thinking.  I was thinking: 

Category 1 - Vampires: New Author J. Stein - Anna Strong Chronicles Series of 5 books

Category 2 - Misc Paranormal - New Author Rachel Caine - The Weather Warden Series 8 books

Category 3 - Guardians - Author Alexandra Ivy - Guardians of Eternity 5 books

Category 4 - Succubus - Richelle Mead - Georgina Kincaid 4 books

Category 4 - Werewolves - Eileen Wilks - World of the Lupi 6 books

Etc.  10 different categories with 10 different New authors 10 series finished

But that idea looks good also.

Okay.  So the "new series" are series that are like just starting out, i.e. Covet?  Right?  Like series with on the debuts out so far?   And 10 series finished, are those series that are started and finished in 2010 or say if you've already read 5 out of 7 books in a series in 2009 and finish the last 2 in 2010 that would count?  I think that would make it too easy.  Thoughts?   Also, Old Favorites, you mean "authors"? 

Here is what I was thinking.....

10 new authors: new-to-me authors

10 new series: that would be new-to-me.....I have stacks of series here that I've never started

10 series finished: series that you started in the past but never finished....also series that were in the other category, if finished, could go in this one too.

10 Old Favorites: not re-reads, books you haven't read before, by authors you like.

That would be a minimum of 40 books, but could be a lot more depending on the series.

Okay.  Sounds good.  Now on to a new list...LOL  Although I think I'll make it more challenging to myself and only use a series for one category.  So I won't use my new series in my finished series category.   But there are plenty of series that I've already read a few books of and only have a few to finish that I could use.  I'm so excited, since I was doing so well on the other challenge and then when I moved I had no time to read for a few months and didn't get to finish.  I was so annoyed.  LOL

Okay.  Wait.  LOL  Don't kill me, but I started to make a new list with this new info and realized all the categories sort of blend together, unless you say you can only use an "author" or "series" once.  Like in the last challenge many books had vamps and wolves and various factions but that book could only be used once.  If I pick a series by an author I've never read before, then it would be a new series and a new author and then if I finish it it will be a series finished.  WAY TOO EASY.  LOL

I think it will up to the individual, because you could list a book in a couple of places, like an author that you have read before you could put in old to me authors and series finished, or a new to me author could also go into a new series . 

I also think the new series doesn't necessarily mean published the first book this year, it could be one you have been meaning to read for a while.  Like I have been collecting Simon Green's books, but haven't started his series yet.  There are like 9 books in there that I could read. 

I also think Finished series just means read books up to date, because very few series are "finished"  They may have more coming out in the future.
