For several days now I have spent time searching thru my 1200 books based on peoples request for deals on there lists etc. I have PM numerous people with offers to fill some of their desires. Now am I old fashioned in thinking they should at least responded to the PM. I don't expect all to necessarily take the offer, but it would be nice to receive some acknowledgement that my efforts weren't a waste of time. A simply thanks for looking or I've run out of credits, changed my mind on those etc. would be nice. Do I need to change my thought process or do we need to contact the manner police(HAHA)? What's your thought |

I'm with you, Janice. It would be considerate of people to respond to your PM's. |

I rarely respond to those posts asking for deals anymore for just for this reason. I've spent too much time in pulling books, giving them one last inspection and PMing the person looking for a deal, only to never hear back. It's frustrating. |

A simple acknowledgement would be nice. Hell, what does it take to type a few words and click on "Submit Reply". -RD |

Thanks friends. I know I'm on the down hill side of lifes roller coaster ride. But I hoped manners were still applicable. |

If your PM was in response to a request for a deal on a forum, then I do think the courteous thing to do would be to at least respond with a "thanks but no thanks". If the PM was an unsolicited request for a deal, I don't think the requestor is owed a response. Common courtesy seems to have gone the way of the DoDo Bird in this country. |

Yes, IMHO, a reply is always warranted..... Because nice matters. |

I've gotten a few offers either ones I'd mentioned in forums or totally out of the blue. I always answered with Yes, Thanks or No Thanks. Took all of 5 seconds to reply. |

When I see a list of books that someone is looking for, and I know I have a few, I might send them a PM and invite them to peruse my bookshelf for themselves ... I don't put in all the work of figuring out exactly what I have, I just let them go find it if they want to. Saves me some time, and the people who are really interested in having the deal don't seem to mind, also. |

I wouldn't assume yet that you are not going to get a response. Some people still don't have computer access every day. |

I think common courtesy mandates an answer... I had 4 people pm me to buy credits... I responded with the address and then nothing, 3 to 4 days have already passed and nothing has shown up in my paypal account and no pm's indicating whether or not they still want them...(the price was indicated in a forum post, so they knew that from the get go) -very disheartening... |

I'm confused about the situation...are you PMing and offering deals in response to a post in a forum somewhere or just unsolicited PMs to people? If they're unsolicited, I wouldn't necessarily expect a response. If someone posted in the Book Bazaar that they are looking for a deal, and you PM'd them, then yes--definitely a response is called for. You also don't mention the length of time that has elapsed since you PM'd people. Being summer, people can be away on vacations, long weekends, or just busy doing other things and not getting around to checking in every day. Cheryl |

Cheryl, Sorry I'm confussing. I have trouble getting my thoughts into words. Yes I am offering deals in response to post in the forum. And yes I have also considered the reasonable time factor. Just to give one example. In my opinion if you are posting requests for books and deals and bumping it up everyday. I would think a response would be given whether a nay or ya within a day or two. When you posted a request at midnight and I've responded the next morning sure several days my pass before a response is given. I hope this helps make it clearer. |

I know what you're talking about. I used to respond to requests, too, but quit when it got so either the other member didn't respond at all, or alternately, wanted a better deal than I was willing to do (as for instance, the totally unrealistic 5 trade paperbacks for one credit). |

I'd certainly answer if you were offering me a book deal! :) |

Thanks, Janice...that does clear it up. I agree, if someone is posting a request for deals and bumping that post daily, it shows they are around PBS and if you send them a PM about that deal, they really ought to respond at least to say "no thanks." I stay totally away from the Book Bazaar and just plain have nothing to do with deals, and part of the reason is that I have seen so many posts with people being frustrated with problems that happen with them. Janice - I agree, how hard is to send a quick response. But don't take it personally! |

Like Janice, I've bothered to go and find books I have that someone was asking about in the BB. I've PM'd them with the details and then have never heard back. It's frustrating and rude; I find it very annoying. But on the other side, I've had members give me some great deals and then because one of the books, on closer inspection didn't meet their own standards for what they like to send out, bothered to look at my lists and sent me a book I'd been wanting, as a FREEBIE, as a consolation for the less than perfect book. So I have to say, overall, I've had more good experiences than bad with the BB. And by checking what others are looking for, it's helped me move some of the older books on my shelf, that might have been there forever. |
