Help Center - The request I made for a book disappeared from my account page!

Search Terms:

If you requested a book, but now cannot find the request on My Account, this means that the sender declined to send you the book, or you canceled the request (perhaps in error), or the system canceled the request because the sender didn't mark the book mailed, or the book was declared lost in the mail by PBS, or you have marked the book received (perhaps erroneously), or the book was not a book you requested in a for-credit transaction at PBS, OR you are simply not looking on the correct tab on your My Account page.

First, look on My Account: click My Account in the toolbar at the top of the site.  Look at the different tabs there.  Books that you have requested that have not been mailed to you yet will be on the "Books I've Requested" tab.  Books that have been marked mailed to you will be on the "En Route to Me" tab.  (Each tab will appear only if there is at least one active transaction in that category).

To find the tabs on your My Account page, login and click My Account at the top of the page.  Scroll down if necessary to see the tabs directly below the blue "Message from the Librarian" box.   Click each tab and scroll down if necessary to see the transactions in those categories.

If you do not find the book request on any of the tabs in My Account, read on.

  • If the sender declined to send you the book:

    • If there is no active transaction on My Account for the book, that means there was no other copy of the book available in the system at the time the request was canceled
      • in this case, you would have been sent an email notifying you of the cancellation
      • you would have gotten your credit back and the book would have been put on your Wish List
    • You will have been sent an email notifying you of the cancellation.
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive; if you mouse over the icon with the X to the left of the transaction, a box saying "Canceled by sender" will pop up.
  • If the sender declined to send you the book because of your Requestor Conditions:
    • The transaction will not appear in the transaction archive
    • You will have been sent an email notifying you that the book could not be sent  (if there are no other copies in the system)
  • If you canceled by mistake:
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive; if you mouse over the icon with the X  to the left of the transaction, a box saying "Canceled by requestor" will pop up.
    • You are not sent an email for a cancellation you performed yourself.
  • If the system canceled:
    • This happens when the sender does not respond at all or does not mark the book mailed before the deadline
    • If there is no active transaction on My Account for the book, that means there was no other copy of the book available in the system at the time the request was canceled
      • in this case, you would have been sent an email notifying you of the cancellation
      • you would have gotten your credit back and the book would have been put on your Wish List
    • There will be a canceled transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive; if you mouse over the icon with the X  to the left of the transaction, a box saying "No response from sender" will pop up
  • If the book was declared Lost in the Mail at PBS:
    • That means the book did not arrive by the 26th day (the 35th day if the sender or requestor is outside the contiguous US) after it was marked mailed by the sender
    • In this case you would have been sent an email notifying you of this
    • You would also have gotten your credit back and the book would have been placed on your Wish List.
There will be a Lost transaction for the book in your Transaction Archive; if you mouse over the icon with the ? on it, on the left of the Transaction archive, a box saying "Lost in mail" will pop up
  • If you requested the book in a Box-O-Books swap:
    • You will find it in one of the Pending Boxes in your Box-O-Books area

Of course, if you did not request this book from another PBS member, it will not appear anywhere in your PBS account.
