Help Center - How do I choose a PBS nickname/make a public profile?

Search Terms:

You can choose your PBS Nickname in your Account Settings  My Account > Settings) .

Choosing an account Nickname means the Nickname will show on your account Profile.   Profiles may be as detailed or as simple as you like.  You can include icons or personal photos, links to personal websites, biographical information, lists of books you are reading or recommend to others, books you plan to read, etc.  There are links to your Bookshelf, Wish List, Book Reviews/Ratings and transactions statistics in your PBS Profile (these can all be "hidden" if you wish, using the Expanded Privacy Controls).

Note: Profiles may not contain advertisements, commercial solicitations or referral links, links to other swapping sites, material of an obscene or pornographic nature. Also, negative comments about PaperbackSwap or other club members are not permitted.

Why have a Profile?

  • Only members who have Profiles will appear in the Member Directory

  • Members with Profiles receive roughly twice the number of requests to their bookshelves as members who do not make public profiles!
    • Being searchable from the Member Directory makes it easier for other members to find you--and see your Bookshelf.

To Set Up/Edit Your Profile:

  • Go to your Account Settings:

    • From My Account: click the Settings tab
    • From anywhere on the site: place your cursor over My Account and choose Settings from the menu that drops down.
  • Scroll down to see the Profile Settings (or click the link at the top of the Settings page)
    • Make your changes and click when you are done.
    • Your PBS Nickname cannot be changed after it is chosen, so be sure you are happy with your choice!
    • Your Profile personal photo will be your Discussion Forum photo as well.

To View Your Profile:

  • Click on your My Account page, or
  • Choose My Profile in the dropdown menu under My Account at the top of any page on the site.

You can set Privacy Options for your profile and other account information in your Account Settings by clicking the link to Privacy Controls at the upper right of the Account Settings page.  See Expanded Privacy Controls for more information.
