This is the 1st quilting book I ever had, and it is the one I learned to quilt with. It is written for the beginning quilter and takes you from the basics to the beauty of quilting!

There is a section of colored pictures of the completed projects, which include, Pella Tulip Pillow, Sunshine & Shadow pillow, Cathedral Window Pillows, Hexagon Potholders & Placemats; Drunkard's path pillows, Robbing Peter to Pay Paul pillows and wall hangings, Christmas and Harvest Puff-Patch wreaths, Dresden Plate Friendship quilt and pillows.

This book teaches the more traditional scissors and template technique, rather than the newer rotary cutter techniques. If you are newly considering quilting, and don't want to buy a plethora of new supplies, the sewing supplies you already have are probably enough to follow along and be successful in this book. While I have and do use a rotary cutter for some things, like stip piecing, I prefer to use scissors and templates for most quilting.

I really like that Carla even teaches you to sew your quilts by hand, so you don't even have to have a sewing machine! Sometimes I LIKE to sew by hand. You almost HAVE to do the Cathedral Window pattern by hand to get them to look right. My dream is to someday create a HUGE Cathedral window quilt....along with 27 thousand other projects....

As I said, I really LIKE this book for beginning, or perhaps to go back to the basics and learn to make quilts the way the used to make them.
