Anna Southward owns and runs a detective agency. Her partner .. the one with the actual license .. had headed to greener pastures ..Hollywood to be an actor. So Anna is doing what she knows how to do while taking classes to earn her own license.

Her first client is deaf who is , thankfully, according to Anna able to read lips, although she also has a translator who goes places with her. Fiona Galloway has been receiving threatening letters. She has no idea why or who would do this and she doesn't feel its necessary to contact the police.

Anna does a little snooping and comes up with nothing. She's about to close out this one when Fiona is beaten and stomped, and almost killed by two masked men. And then there are the deaths that are occurring that the police are calling 'accidents'.

I read Ms. Bedford's first book ... WORSE THAN DEATH (review --> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1469300950). This one is better. The plot is good and the suspense is heightened. Anna is a bit more fleshed out and I'm actually liking her much more now ... she seems to be more substantial. There are a couple of characters making a return and a few new faces to make it much more interesting.

The reader doesn't necessarily need to read these in order, but as always, I recommend it.
