Interesting and oft-times humorous anti-war novel from after World War I. Apparently, it was very effective, as the cover states many European armies banned it from their military barracks.

Still, the situations described were often repetitious and it sometimes dragged. Plus it was overly long, as may be common with Czech writing at this period. The author was a former Czech soldier who died young from a disease he contracted during his war service.
