This describes orphanage conditions and lives of small children that I can barely imagine. As an adoptive parent of a daughter who has been home from China since 1997, this book had a tremdous impact on me and my understanding of the life my child may have had before I knew her. In the past 12 years I have read a lot but this filled in many of the gaps... gaps that I will never really know but can only imagine. Thank you, Kay Bratt, for your work, for writing this, and for helping me to understand.
