This story is set during the time of Prohibition. It's about a father who is a bootlegger and has a daughter in her early 20's with no mother, who is tired of having to move again and again to keep 'the law' from finding them out. They (along with two men that work for Anabel's father)move to a house in Missouri this time, and Anabel Lee falls in love with the place and the land, and she's delighted to hear her father talk about selling out his bootlegging business so that he can provide a more stable life for his Anabel...though his idea of a better life for her is far from her own ideas of the life she wants. When Anabel's father goes missing on one of his 'business trips', Anabel is left there with Boone, Spinner, Jack (whom she took in when the young man was sick), and Corbin (who ends up falling in love with her while trying to expose a major group of bootleggers from out of town). Not only do they have to figure out what happened to him, and what they are going to do if he is dead, but they also have to worry about the Carters that live on the land next to theirs. The Carters are a mean, clannish bunch and the eldest Carter brother has his eye on Anabel Lee. This book was a GREAT read! It touches on each of the characters in the book, it's funny, it's a little sad, has some romance....I fell in love with this book and once you read it once, I don't think you'll be able to stop yourself from reading it again!
