It's been such a long time since I read this (1987 pub date --> 22 years!) immensely clever & entertaining novel, I can't do it justice, but here are some quotations from Amazon customer reviews that sum up my feelings about it:
"Saint's narrative of how an invisible man survives in an urban setting is very credible because of the amount of details provided. Nick is forced to become a true survivalist because government agents are after him with the intent of making him a laboratory curiosity." --Tony Leace

"This novel does start off a bit slow through the lengthy intro until you get to the pages where Nick Halliday becomes invisible but from then on you can't put this great read down. Once the accident in New Jersey occurs and Nick becomes invisible Memoirs of an Invisible Man is quite a fascinating read as we view life through the eyes of someone who has become invisible and discovers they have to worry about what they eat, how long the food takes to digest, and that they have to avoid the rain, escalators, lifts and other things visible people take for granted so that they won't be discovered. When the government agents start to track Nick down and he has to constantly flee and find somewhere new to sleep each night is also riveting reading. You should also avoid reading the blurb on the back cover as it also gives away a fair bit of the plot." --James N. Simpson

"Edgy, nail-biting, darkly humorous, sexy, paranoid, and brilliant..." --Marshall Lord

"It takes you on a journey in your mind. You feel like you are the character. Fighting for survival. It's an amazing book. Fascinating. Awesome. What else can I say?" --C. Dubois

Indeed!
