I found this book to be very dark. Lots of betrayal and redemption, unforgivable acts and forgiveness, lots of senseless action and consequences.

The settings and story is very richly drawn, but I found the character development to be too shallow, leaning the characters fairly one-dimensional.

I also thought the descriptions of inner dialogue short-changed the depth of thought that I believe most people have. Especially descriptions of the thoughts and reactions of the women in the book. Sorry to say, but only a man could get it that wrong. I've never in my life actually known women with that little understanding of what they want out of life and how to get it without destroying everyone around them.
