I saw some mixed reviews so thought I'd like to chime in...I gave this 4.5 stars. I'm not a YA fan...I get them once in a while and force myself to read them. Sometimes I like 'em and sometimes I don't. I liked this!
At first I thought...not another vamp story! Nope! It's pretty original and I am looking forward to reading more!
It's starts a little shaky simply because there is so much background info to impart and the fact that you aren't supposed to understand the whole story until the end, though I guessed most of it about 1/2 through...I couldn't be sure until I read it... I liked the heroine because even as a young girl she has a strong sense of herself and sticks up for what she believes in. She'll even stare (figuratively) down Angels and Reapers! And the end was spot on! 4 beings, like the Medicine Wheel (oppostites)...working together...very nicely done!
I'm always interested in books that do more than entertain...I want life lessons, especially in books for minors (and the rest of us who haven't stopped evolving)! And I just love anything that teaches kids that this world isn't about good and evil...there doesn't have to be a "bad guy"; we need to take responsibility for our own choices!
