Maribel Lewis is mean-spirited woman, who makes the lives of everyone who knows her miserable. However, even a despicable woman like Maribel does not deserve to be the target of a vicious harassment campaign that includes death threats and break-ins to her home. Police officer Jackie Kaminsky is assigned to the Lewis case, but before the law enforcement official can take any real action, Maribel is murdered, a victim of numerous stabbings in her bathdroom.
Jackie begins to investigate the most likely suspects, but soon discover that every one of them has received a death threat note which contains a pentagram as its' signature. When one the recipients of the notes is killed in a horrific manner, the police feel they are dealing with a serial killer. Though this is her first time heading up a homicide investigation and her lover wants her to change jobs, Jackie continues to skillfully search for the killer. If she survives the threat to her own life by the culprit, she must wonder if her much valued relationship can survive her profession.

Canadian author Margot Dalton shows much growth as a writer with her second Detective Kaminsky novel, SECOND THOUGHTS. There are so many viable suspects with credible motives that readers will never guess who the culprit is even though clues are available aplenty. The secondary characters are very well developed, leading to fans desiring that some of them have their own tales told. Great story telling has become the trademark of this wonderful writer.
