I am torn regarding this story. (some small spoilers)

On one hand, I think that Stephenie Meyer has a exceptional ability to put emotions into words. As someone who was recently left by the person who I thought I would be with forever--Bella's emotions resonated with me. And I thought the way that Stephenie Meyer described the emotions was better than any words I had ever come up with.

On the other hand, I am frustrated with the overwhelming devotion Bella has for Edward. The message seems to be that if you love someone it doesn't matter how bad they are for you or how much they negatively affect your lives or how much you will have to give up (for instance, her family and her friends), you should do it because you are in love. This is not a message I can really get behind--so I found the passages where this seemed to be the message particularly frustrating for me. And I do understand that she is only a teen and I remember feelings like that as a teen; however in the context of the story she is making irreversible and life changing decisions based primarily on her love for Edward.

But the story itself is very compelling and engaging. It does draw the reader in--and it does leave the reader waiting in anticipation for the next book.
