Book Review of The Axeman's Jazz

The Axeman's Jazz

This is a riveting tale. Celestin really captures the atmosphere of New Orleans so well! I lived in New Orleans for awhile many years ago and have visited often but there were things I learned here that I did not know. The Axeman murders actually occurred 100+ years ago and he was never caught. The actual chilling letter he wrote that was published in the Times-Picayune is included and scary stuff! A young Louis Armstrong is among the cast of compelling characters. There are some brutal elements but overall this is a richly atmospheric read with richly developed characters. I will seek out more by this author.
