A fascinating account of one of the most examined small unit actions of the American Civil War: The fight on Little Round Top at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863.

Although the book mainly covers the units (Union and Confederate) during the Gettysburg campaign, the author also supplies background from the initial formation of the units and their commanders, and follows many of the men into their later years. As stated in the description, the author uses primary source material from both sides and all ranks. This helps to make the book extremely personal.

Finally, the last chapter puts it all into perspective. While the author strips the men and the battle of myth, he does so without removing any of the heroism the men of both sides exhibited that day.

No matter how many books you have read on this action, you need to read this one also.
